Q.1 What is WLL service? Ans. WLL stands for Wireless in Local Loop. The connection from exchange to the handset is given using wireless technology. WLL service is provided in two manners: Fixed Wireless Telephone (FWT) : In this case there is a small box fitted with a small antenna at the subscriber premises and a normal telephone instrument is connected to the box.There is no wire connection as in conventional telephones. Handheld Telephone : In this case the subscriber can carry a small handset similar to a GSM phone. There is no antenna or any further equipment at subscriber premises. Subscriber will get the service for the major part of greater Kolkata stretching from Bhatpara,Chinsurah in the north to Budge Budge, Harinavi in the south. In the East-west direction it works from Barasat in the east to Andul, Uluberia in the west. Q.2 Do WLL and mobile service mean the same for Calcutta Telephones? Ans. No. Mobile service for Calcutta Telephones is available as another service. Q.3 How WLL is different from the Mobile service? If I use WLL service with handheld terminal, is it not the same as mobile service? Ans. To some extent, WLL with handheld terminal has a similar effect as a mobile service. But it is not a fully mobile service and has the following difefrences. Q.4 Can I use the same mobile handset, for WLL handheld service? Ans. No. The mobile service uses a different technology GSM and the WLL service uses CDMA The handsets are specific to the kind of service. Q.5 How do I register for this service? Ans. There are two types of WLL service : FWT (Fixed wireless telephone) and Handheld telephone. FWT Service : There is no separate registration for the FWT service. Those who have registered for a normal fixed line telephone, and whose work order has been issued but the connection not yet given for nonavailability of cable pair, may take FWT service by giving an undertaking to take this service. He will have the option of paying Rs 10000 deposit (refundable) for the instrument or Rs. 20 per month as insurance charges. For all practical purposes, this service is identical to the fixed line ordinary telephone service and will be billed in a similar manner. Q.6 How do I register for the Handheld telephone service? Ans. You can register for this service in a separate form available from our Area offices. Q.7 What are the charges for Fixed Wireless service? Ans. For Fixed wireless telephone, all charges (rental, free calls, call units for local / STD / ISD) are the same as the normal fixed line telephone. Q.8 What are the charges for Handheld telephone service? Ans. For handheld telephone service, the outgoing calls are Rs. 1.20 per call unit (3 minute for local and variable pulse rates for STD) and incoming calls are free. Billing will be done monthly. There are four tariff plans : Standard, Alternate 1, Alternate 2 and Alternate 3. There are schemes like free calls and CLI facility. For details plaese see the tariff of the above plans. Q.9 How do I get the handset for the handheld telephone service? Ans. You can get the handset in one of the following manners: Buy a CDMA handset from the market. Make sure it is CDMA handset, because most mobile phones available in the market are of GSM technology and will not work with WLL In that case you don’t have to pay anything for handset to BSNL.
Take a handset on loan from BSNL by paying Rs 5000. Please note that if you loan the handset from BSNL by paying Rs. 5000: You may return it to BSNL within 3 months, and get back 90% of your deposit. If you do not return it within three months, the Rs. 5000 will be automatically adjusted as cost of the handset. |
