Wi - Fi is a product compatibility standards for wireless local area networks (WLAN). Wi-Fi was intended to be used for mobile devices and LANs, but is now often used for Internet and wireless VoIP phone access. It enables a person with a wireless-enabled computer, a personal digital assistant (PDA), or a wireless VoIP phone to connect to the Internet when in proximity of an access point. The geographical region covered by one or several access points is called a WiFi hotspot.

BSNL is introducing Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) for providing high-speed wireless Internet Access to its customer at convenient public location  called Hot Spots.

Wi-Fi is Wireless Fidelity Network, which is relatively a new phenomenon that helps in easy and fast way to go online in a wireless mode. It works on 2.4 GHZ radio frequency spectrums within 100 m radius.

It comprises three main components viz., Gateway router, Wireless Access Point and Wi-Fi enabled device.

Gateway Router, Access points, Internet access are provided by BSNL at WiFi Hotspots.

The user must have WiFi component on his/her Laptop to access Internet.

WiFi Prepaid cards of BSNL:

Tariff of prepaid Wi-Fi service is based on type of WiFi Hot Spots. Hot Spots are categorized as Type A and Type B.BSNL introduces Pre-paid cards for WiFi hotspots of BSNL.

Hotspot Type-A :
           This is applicable for frequent user to the WiFi hotspot. The validity of WiFi card is 15 to 90
          days and the usage time is 100 minute to 1500 minutes depending on the card
          denominations.

Hotspot Type-B :
           This is applicable for occasional users to the WiFi hotspot where the validity of WiFi card is
           24 hours and the usage time is 30 minute to 2 hours depending on the card denominations.
           Customers visiting these above said places are required to buy these cards and use it.

Commissions for sale of WiFi cards BSNL can tie-up with the Agents for sale of prepaid WiFi cards for Type B WiFi Hotspots on commission basis. Agents are requested to contact DE(Sales), 4^th Floor, Telephone Bhawan, 34 BBD Bag, Kolkata-1. Hotspot oweners can avail the commission on sale of Type B WiFi prepaid cards only.
